I want to volunteer…

Southern Volunteering Adelaide Fleurieu Peninsula

How we can help

Have you thought about volunteering for a not-for-profit organisation in the southern suburbs of Adelaide or Fleurieu Peninsula but you’re not sure how to go about it?

Southern Volunteering (SA) Inc collects information from volunteer-involving organisations across the southern Adelaide region including the Fleurieu Peninsula. These not-for-profit organisations provide Southern Volunteering (SA) Inc with information on the volunteer roles they have and their requirements.

We offer individuals interested in finding out about volunteering options a no-obligation, informal appointment to discuss volunteering options. One of our team will work with you to find suitable opportunities based upon the time you have available, the type of work you would like to do, the skills you have to offer, or the experience you wish to gain and any other requirements you may have. The informal process provides you with the opportunity to be presented with the range of volunteering options available and for us to find out more about you and offer a choice of suitable positions. The appointment generally lasts between 30 – 60 minutes.

Individuals interested in volunteering can take the first step by contacting us at either of our offices in Christies Beach or Victor Harbor to arrange a time to meet with one of our Volunteer Referral Officers.

Why do people volunteer?

People volunteer for a number of different reasons, ranging from a desire to learn new skills, gain credible work experience, have fun, help others, form new friendships, develop and maintain self-esteem and to become more involved in their local community. Others may also be looking to fulfil Centrelink obligations. Some people volunteer on a regular basis, whilst others simply wish to volunteer when they can within the demands of work, family and lifestyle. The time and commitment required to be a volunteer varies with each position.

Introduction to Volunteering Info Sessions

Southern Volunteering (SA) Inc offers free Introduction to Volunteering Information Sessions for individuals who have never volunteered before and may need more information on roles available and the processes involved. These sessions are delivered in the Metro South area by a member of our team  and last for roughly 90 minutes. It is not training, participants simply listen and ask questions at the end if they wish. Bookings essential, to make an online booking please click here

Training

Southern Volunteering (SA) Inc aims to offer a regular program with a range of training opportunities for all active volunteers in the community. This program also includes professional development opportunities for Volunteer Managers and Coordinators.

VIBE Volunteering

This exciting venture for Southern Volunteering, funding by the Office for Ageing Well in SA Health, aims to introduce volunteer involving organisations to experienced volunteers. Research has found that many people over the age of 50 are keen to utilise their skills and knowledge gained over many years through paid work or recreational activities, to give something back to the community. Individuals may be employed, self-employed, retired, studying or not currently in the workforce. They may have already attempted to volunteer but can’t identify positions on offer that recognise or utilise their skills and knowledge.

VIBE Volunteering aims to:

  • Link skilled volunteers to meaningful volunteering roles
  • Support organisations to look outside the square to identify volunteering opportunities that require skills and experience

So if you are…

A potential volunteer aged 50+ with skills and knowledge and the right vibe, that you feel can be put to good use for the benefit of a local not for profit organisation
OR
A volunteer involving organisation that has an ongoing role or short term piece of work that requires experience and knowledge and a volunteer with the right vibe

Please get in touch with our friendly team today admin@svsa.org.au or telephone 8326 0020.
